An Offering in Righteousness

From Refining to Consecration

“He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.”

Malachi 3:3

Our first Sons of Levi gathering asked: Who am I in Christ? Our second asked: Am I becoming like Him? This one asks the question that follows: What will I offer Him?

The Lord refines the sons of Levi for a reason. He sits as a refiner of silver until His servants can offer an offering in righteousness: a broken heart and a contrite spirit, a life laid on the altar, and service given without holding back.

Our days fall in the Hebrew month of Shevat, when Moses began his last charge to Israel, and on the Sabbath of Bo, when the Lord said of Israel's firstborn, “it is mine.” The Levites were taken in their place.

“Let us, therefore, as a church and a people, and as Latter-day Saints, offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.”

D&C 128:24

About this gathering

This January we gather at Bear Lake again, in the quiet of winter, for four days centered on Christ and on becoming His servants in deed.

This is our third Sons of Levi gathering. At the first, every man received the Key of Righteousness: his commitment to sexual purity, because that comes before everything else. At the second, the men who held it received a larger key, the Key of Kingship. This time we ask what the refining is for. Malachi saw the Lord sit as a refiner of silver, purifying the sons of Levi “that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.” We will study what that offering is, and how to give it.

Our days fall in the Hebrew month of Shevat, when Moses began his last charge to Israel, the words that end with his blessing on Levi. Saturday's Torah reading is Bo: the Passover lamb, and “Sanctify unto me all the firstborn.”

We eat, study and worship together and finish with a sacrament meeting Sunday. Come alone, with a brother, or as a father and son. No age limit. Can't stay the weekend? A Saturday day pass brings you in for Saturday's sessions and meals.

Arriving: Check-in is Thursday evening between 5 and 6 PM. Winter roads into Bear Lake can close in a storm: check road conditions before you leave, and if the roads close, come as soon as they open. The house address is shared with registered men before the gathering.

For every man

A Vial of Oil and a Blessing Card

Every man who comes, full stay or day pass, takes home a pocket vial of pure olive oil and a card with the order of a healing blessing, so the priesthood you have learned to use goes with you.

In their own words

Questions

Before you book.

A few of the questions we are asked most.

When and how do I pay?

Registering and paying are one motion. The form hands you straight to the checkout page when you finish, and a confirmation email with the same payment link follows in case something interrupts you. Your place is held while you pay and confirmed once the payment is in; each gathering's page says how long the hold lasts.

Can I register my family or a friend?

It depends on the bed. Most beds are one person, one registration: each person fills the form with their own name and email and pays for their own bed, which is also how each of them gets their own confirmation and their own place on the rooming list. A suite is the exception — one registration and one payment covers everyone sharing it, and you add each person by name on the form. Either way, tell us at registration who you would like to be near and we will do what we can.

What if my plans change?

Open your registration with the same email and update it any time before the gathering. If you cannot come, email april@zionstreaming.com. Ask within 30 days of the day you paid and at least seven full days before the gathering begins, and you are refunded in full. After that a refund is at our discretion, and you can always transfer your place at no charge. Full policy: theziongathering.com/refunds.

Where will I sleep?

Gatherings are in large private homes, and we cannot guarantee specific spots. Beds are first come, first served. We do our best to accommodate anyone who needs a ground-floor room or a bottom bunk, where possible.

What should I bring?

Bedding and towels are provided. Bring a pillow from home, your scriptures, comfortable clothes for the outdoors, and anything you need for the night.
